In 1529 King Henry VIII tired of the power the churches had over the crown ordered the dissolution of the churches and plans were made to attack Michelham Priory, the Augustine Monks could not defend against the Kings men and the Priory was taken and the church of the holy trinity destroyed, it is not known how many were killed during the attack.

- Black hooded monk like figures have been witnessed around the grounds.
- The spirit supposedly of a former owner Thomas Sackvillehas been seen and is reported to torment the spirit of a Rosie, a young girl who hides in a priest hole the in hope of refuge from her tormentor.
- The spirit of a grey lady has been reported on many occasions, she is reported to stand on the bridge and is also often seen near the gatehouse.
- The figure of a maid has been seen around the hall and stairs area, while a figure of a young boy has been witnessed in the kitchen.
- Poltergeist activity has been reported within the house where objects are said to mysteriously move on their own and windows are found to be open when no one has opened them.
